After Paris…

03 /11/2023
Cádiz, Southern Spain
Finally off the ship. We missed the last two ports-of-call so have been on board since Paris, five days ago. Dry land, at last.
We caught the Hop on Hop off bus for a 1.5 hour tour of the town. The Moorish influence is strong here and the other architecture is more of a practical nature, being built for defensive purposes both from the elements and raiding parties. It’s listed as the oldest city in Western Europe the beer is cold and cheap. I can see why the Poms come here. Pity they trash the place when they visit.
We wandered the streets and narrow alleys, just being two good friends enjoying the sights. Life is good and I’m appreciative of all we’ve been granted.
.
And I’m really grateful to still be here, doing this.
.
Did I tell you we can’t rent a car? We renewed our licenses pre departure but they didn’t arrive before we left. So we have expired licenses and can’t rent cars. Apparently. We bought a car in Scotland which has been great for the UK. Just hope we don’t get pulled over.
Next trip will be hiring a car and drive-touring Europe’s wonders and wild life.

Access to Gibraltar has been cancelled due to some new rule so we’re bound for Barcelona and have an extra night at sea. All stops have been cancelled for Islamic countries. We have very little ‘real world’ interactivity so don’t know how bad (or good) things are out there.
We came for four main stops:
1/ Petra, Jordan
2/ Luxor, Egypt
3/ Basque Country, Spain and
4/ Rock of Gibraltar
All of them are cancelled so being medically disembarked in Naples ain’t all bad. We’ll miss Greece but since we’ve been multiple times, it’s not a huge loss. And our insurance will pay all our costs to get home. And the ship company will Pro Rata our lost trip days.
Could have been much worse- Could have met an un/friendly Stinger or Exocet in the Canal.
.
Enough negativity, it’s beer o’clock for me here,

Enjoy every Sandwich

Steve
