The GPS said three hours and seven minutes to Rockfleet. Five and a half hours later we arrived to see the castle home of Grace O’Malley, Irelands very own Pirate Queen. It was covered in scaffolding and the foundations had clearly been recently reinforced. Just a little disappointing but also lots funny. The best laid plans and all that.
We had stopped a Tuan to visit a cathedral where one of Lyns many ancestors had been the Arch Bishop in the distant past (1600’s?). It was closed and in poor condition. Been closed for years, apparently.
We have been looking after a teacup Yorkshire Terrier for the past week. The little thing went everywhere with us and gave us both great joy playing with her. I’m missing my own puppy, Millie, as I write this.
It’s a shame we only have a few hours here in Newport. Next trip I think we will drive the Wild Atlantic Way down the west coast of Ireland and only drive two hours each day. If that.
We stayed the night in a beautiful B&B and Lyn is working as I write this. More road trip this afternoon. Lucky me ☺️
On Sunday we had gone to Waterford to see the Viking Triangle – five Viking and medieval museums in a small part of the center of the city. It was a LONG 70km trip each way and the term ‘Sunday Driver’ really comes into its own here. Just gotta learn to relax and laugh. The museums were really well presented and informative and the guided walking tour well worth the charge. Waterford is definitely a recommendation point for visiting.
And the food. Wow the food. Maybe I was just lucky – and why not? I’m in Ireland – the home of luck. At least so the locals tell me.
